In the last two decades, more than 20 known Yoruba actors in Nigeria have relocated the United States of America for greener pastures.
Interestingly, only a few of them have been able to go through the process of acquiring legal residency in God’s own country .Though these make-believe stars have continued to shoot movies and feature in movies in different states of America, they still keep touch with their Nigerian roots.
While a large number of these movie stars have kept up with their fans across the world via social media, others have tried to feature and shoot movies in Nigeria and US. Here are five Yoruba movie stars who have relocated to the US in no particular.
Rasaq Ajao aka Araosan
Araosan as Rasaq Ajao is fondly called is one of the oldest Nigerian movie practitioners that relocated to the United States of America over two decades ago. The actor, who is also a nurse, still manage to act and keep up with the Nigerian movie industry as well as her colleagues and fans.
Laide Bakare is a Nigerian actress who mostly acts in Yoruba movies. She was born on October 7,1980 and hails from Oyo State.
The actress current resides in US and announced her residency status in the US to the world in 2017.
Another actor who left Nigeria for greener pastures. The actor announced his residency status in November 5, 2018.
Yomi Gold is happily married to his US based wife, Victoria Ige and their union is blessed with beautiful children.
Actor Femi relocated to the United States of America about three years ago when things were no longer rosy for him in the movie industry. The gifted actor became a security guard in the U.S and was not ashamed to reveal it. He stated sometimes back that he has achieved more as a security guard abroad than he did while at home acting, despite the fact that he has put over twenty years in the industry.
Tunde Owokoniran also known as tunde tilapia is a veteran Yoruba movie actor. He is a native of Ogun state but has spent much of his lifetime in Lagos state. He went to Lagos State University where he studied Industrial Relations and Personnel Management. He graduated from the University in 2010.
When young Tunde lost his mother many years ago, life became a struggle for him. Due to his polygamous background, he found it difficult getting adequate support as a result he could barely make ends meet. As a way of meeting his immediate needs, Tunde had to join the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ojuelegba. Joining the NURTW enabled him secure work as a bus conductor. But he had to sleep under the bridge as his income could only feed and clothe him.
