Following the recently concluded gubernatorial elections, a lady identified as Hadiza Balarabe has broken the 17-year dearth of non-female deputy governors to emerge as one in the just concluded elections.
Dr. Hadiza Balarabe may be the second female deputy governor in the history of Kaduna state but she is the first elected female deputy governor in the history of the state.
Her victory comes after the recently held governorship elections in which she was chosen as the running mate for sitting governor, El Rufai,who was re-elected into office. Many people have taken to social media to celebrate this amazing feat.

Prior to Hadiza’s election into office, there was a 17-year dearth of female deputy governors in the state. The last time a woman held the office was in the ’90s and it lasted for two years (1990-1992).
Abubakar Ayuba was appointed military governor of Kaduna state alongside Pamela Saduki as his deputy. Saduki was the first woman in history of the state to be in that position.
However, Hadiza Balarabe has become the first woman to be elected into the position.
