Rafael Nadal has won the US Open, his 16th career Grand Slam title.

He defeated Kevin Anderson of South Africa.

Playing in his 23rd Grand Slam, the world No. 1 defeated the 32nd-ranked Anderson, a South African appearing in his first Grand Slam final in 32 tries, in straight sets.

Before now, Nadal had won the US Open in 2010 and 2013.

On Saturday, Nadal swept past Argentina’s Juan Martin del Potro, to set up a US Open final against Anderson.

“It means a lot. It has been an amazing season of course after a couple with injures and troubles.

“To be back here in front of this amazing crowd, on this amazing court, and to have the chance to fight for another title is so important to me,” Nadal said.​
