ThisDay is reporting that 35 Nigerian students in the US have sued Alabama State University (ASU) for treating them like animals after defrauding Nigerian government.
It quoted Daily Beast as saying that “Thankgod Harold, Success Jumbo, Savior Samuel, Godsgift Moses, Promise Owei and 30 others on full scholarships from a Nigerian government fund for four years have sued Alabama State University (ASU) for discrimination and treating them like animals.”
Alabama University has allegedly defrauded Nigerian government.
The students, in their lawsuit, alleged that they were overcharged by the Alabama University for books and meals and claimed that the school enrolled them in classes they never took simply because they were black foreigners.
“They called us cash cows,” adding: “I’m a black man and I’m proud to be black, but I felt discriminated against,” one of the students named Jimmy Iwezu lamented.
He claimed that the university said it could do whatever it wished with the seven-figure sum Nigerian government under ex-president Goodluck Jonathan paid back in 2013 for some 41 students.

In the lawsuit filed by Attorney Julian McPhillips, the students alleged they were paid lesser than their deserved monies by ASU.
McPhillips said ASU hammered the students with exorbitant billing by inflating the costs of staples like books, room and board, and repurposed the funds to pay for the school’s bond issues and they were not being treated like other students.
While most college students are allowed to bargain for textbooks elsewhere and dine at different establishments beyond the school cafeterias, the Nigerian students at ASU were not allowed such luxury.
