The action of the rioters may be as a result of the planned strike by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

The Labour union had given the federal government till 12 midnight Tuesday to reverse the pump price of petrol from N145 to N86.50 per litre or they would embark on an indefinite strike.

But the federal government got an injunction from the National Industrial Court stopping the NLC from going on with their planned national strike.
