It turns out that the outgoing President Jonathan is not through dazzling Nigerians with more surprises before he bows out.

Leadership reports that just a few hours to the end of his tenure, President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration has approved the promotion of 72 senior police officers from the rank of deputy commissioners of police.

This was disclosed last night in a statement by Ikechukwu Ani, the press and public relations head of the Police Service Commission. Ani said the decision was made at a plenary meeting which had in attendance the chairman of the commission and the former inspector general of police, Sir Mike Okiro. The promotions are said to have taken effect immediately.

Ani said,

“the Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of 72 senior police officers. The promotion was part of the decisions of the commission at its 12th Plenary Meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, May 26, 2015 and presided by its chairman, Sir Dr. Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector General of Police.

“The commission approved the promotion of 14 Deputy Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Commissioners of Police after they appeared before the commission’s Plenary and were interviewed.
“20 ACPs were promoted to the rank of DCP while two CSPs were promoted to the rank of ACP. Another three CSPs were appointed acting ACP, one SP promoted to CSP, 30 DSPs to SP, one ASP to the next rank of DSP. One Inspector was appointed acting ASP.”

Just two days ago, President Goodluck Jonathan nominated Justice Ishaq Bello for screening and confirmation of appointment as chief judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
