Benue State Governor- elect, Samuel Ortom, has disclosed that he was once a motor park tout while still struggling to make ends meal.

Revealing this in an interview with Punch, he ascribed his journey from being a school drop out to the government house as the grace of God.

Ortom, who is a former minister of state for industry, trade and investment, said he dropped out of school in form two due to lack of funds.

While living in the motor park, he said he avoided engaging in crime and remained focused and hardworking.

Recalling his past, he said: “One thing I know is that hard work pays and you must keep faith in God; power belongs to God and He alone gives to whomever he will.”

Samuel Ortom, who contested and won the Benue gubernatorial election with 422,932 votes on the platform of the All Progressives Congress as against his closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party, Terhemen Tarzoor, who polled 313,878 votes to emerge runner-up.
