Buhari first seized power of Nigeria in a military coup, and was in charge from 1983 to 1985. He was elected of the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

Jonathan, 57, of the Peoples Democratic Party, became the acting president in 2010, won the 2011 election, but failed to secure a win in 2015.
