Losing one’s virginity is one of the most sacred, sought after conquest of a teenager’s life. For some reason, there is an emphasis on being someone’s “first” and having bragging rights (and that goes for both guys and girls). However, there is a new trend in town and it involves actually cherishing the act of sex and knowing that it is okay to want to wait for the right person. Could this be because more celebrities are being honest and revealing how long they waited? Or because they regretted the circumstances in which their virginity was lost? Either way, it looks like holding onto your v-card is the new way of expressing one’s independence; and no, we are not referring to the media virgins, the ones who were somewhat pressured into pretending to be virgins (like Britney Spears), but the one’s who took the time out to make a decision that was wise for them. Carrie Underwood, Lolo Jones and Kevin Jonas are just some of the celebrities who waited or are still waiting to share that special moment with that perfect person. Celebrity advocates are important to a topic like this one because they are what tweens today look up to as role models and contrary to popular belief, it is not always about religion; Adriana Lima wanted to wait because it was a gift she could give her husband that not many women can, and Will Ferrell, he waited till he was 21 and in love simply because he felt that it should happen that way. It looks like society is starting to get a grip on the idea that you do not have to do something because it is “cool”. 12. Jessica Simpson – Age: 22
First on our list is no surprise to many people; Jessica Simpson made a career out of being the hot, blond virgin waiting for marriage and love. Simpson’s v-card is based mostly on her religious upbringing (her father is a former pastor) and partially based on her own expectations. It is no surprise that she lost her virginity to then husband Nick Lachey, whom she later divorced. However, rumor has it that Simpson is not shy when expressing her sexuality. John Mayer (one of her conquests) has titled her “sexual napalm”. Looks like she has come out of her shell.
11. Leelee Sobieski – Age: 26
Actress Leelee Sobieski decided to save that special moment for a special man; that special man happened to be fashion designer Adam Kimmel. So at 26, the actress tied the knot and by 30 was expecting her second child; (she wasted no time). Sobieski has been quite vocal about her decision to wait till marriage. In 2014, she told Access Hollywood; “I guess 26 is kind of old to lose your virginity, but it was important to me that I remained a virgin until after I was married”. She wants society to know that it is not for religious reasons but simply because to her, “virginity is the most precious gift” [to give to a man].
10. Lolo Jones – Age: Still Waiting
Track star Lolo Jones has made no secret of holding on tightly to her v-card; Jones has stated that her decision came from different challenges she has had to face as an adult. These challenges encouraged her to keep this “gift” for her future husband; unlike most people she is admitting how hard it is being a virgin in this world. “If there’s a virgin out there, I’m going to let them know, it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life — harder than training for the Olympics, harder than graduating from college, has been to stay a virgin before marriage.”
9. Tim Tebow – Age: Still Waiting
People are still shocked that football player Tim Tebow, has been able to thwart off all of the women who throw themselves at him in the name of Jesus. The athlete has sworn to remain a virgin and give that gift to his future wife; the 27 year old has had his fair share of beautiful women, he was in a short-term relationship with actress Camilla Belle, but it looks like she was not marriage material. Tebow has stated that his family is quite religious and have instilled valuable morals into him. He does not comment on his virginity often and to be honest, he does not need to.

The Friends actress opted to wait for marriage to have sex; she was clearly in it for the long haul because she ended up getting married at the not so “normal” age of 32. Kudrow recently appeared onThe Tonight Show with Jay Leno, where she admitted to be so sick of talking about losing her virginity. Kudrow stated; “everyone has an opinion and I don’t care to hear it!” Unfortunately, several people have questioned Kudrow’s validity due to other interviews she has given stating that the virginity “thing” is not true. That could be her trying to deflect and keep her private life private.
7. Kevin Jonas – Age: 22
At least Jonas Brother band member, Kevin Jonas, did not have to wait too long to find the love of his life and jump in the sack with her. At the tender age of 22, Jonas married his now wife Danielle and wasted no time producing a child. Jonas even decided to share his thoughts on his first time to which he stated “after we did it, I was kind of like that’s it?”. Looks like it’s not as big of a deal once you jump into it. It seems as though Kevin is the only one who went through with this waiting to marriage pact. Joe has seemingly had more girlfriends than anyone can keep track of, so there is no way he is still a virgin and Nick, well just look at him.
6. Adriana Lima – Age: 27
Super gorgeous Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima may be able to bare it all to walk a runway but there is one thing that chokes her up every time; discussions about her virginity. Lima says she held onto her virginity for so long for one simple reason, her values. She said, “You have to stick up for your beliefs and your own values”. Although she still gets bashful when the topic is brought up, she admits she is happy that she waited for marriage. Lima has added to her family with the birth of her daughter Valentina in 2009, and Sienna in 2012. Unfortunately, the couple announced their separation in 2014; maybe she is ready to test the waters.
5. Celine Dion – Age: 20
Honorary member of the club is Celine Dion, simply because she waited for her husband to be ready. When Dion met her husband Rene Angelil, she was 12 and by 17, she had revealed to him the deep feelings she possessed. Later in life when she got up the courage to pursue him, he thwarted her advances feeling she was too young. Dion speaks candidly about her pursuit and his reaction; “It was he who called me several minutes later from the lobby of the hotel to ask if I was all right. And then he told me: ‘If you really want to, I’ll be the first.’ And I answered him: ‘You’ll be the first, and the only.’” You have to give it to the girl, she knows what she wants. By the age of 20 she married him and till this day, he is still the one and only.
4. Carrie Underwood – Age: 27
In 2007, country crooner Carrie Underwood made the bold statement to Slate magazine that she would remain a virgin until she gets married. In 2010, she married hockey player Mike Fisher and revealed that she was proud of herself for being able to resist temptation. Underwood is no longer too shy to speak of love, relationship and how she keeps her marriage hot. During an interview with Peoplemagazine, Underwood stated that she tries harder now to stay in shape for her super fit man, saying “even when he’s like, ‘I’m so out of shape,’ he still has a six-pack, I want to be a hot wife!”
3. Chris Martin – Age: 22
Chris Martin lost his virginity to Gwyneth Paltrow (let’s just get that out of the way). He was 22 when he married and had sex for the first time with one of the world’s most hated celebrities. Actress Meagan Good has used her virginity to be a role model to younger women. Although admitting to how hard dating was while being a virgin, she luckily found the right man and he waited for her. During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, Good revealed that she is writing a book with her husband DeVon Franklin, titled “The Wait” that focuses on the joys of waiting for the right person and what helped them resist temptations. Good states; “spiritually, it’s what I believe I always should’ve done. So I was like, you know, let’s try it this way, it was very different and it’s been amazing.”

Tiny Fey refused to give away her virginity to just anyone; “I couldn’t give it away,” that’s just good, Christian values, or, being homely.” Fey may not strike you as religious and she is not a fanatic about it, but there is definitely a bout of spiritualism in her that helped her refrain from giving it away to the wrong guy.
